Hi everyone, Thank you so much for your appreciation over the years. Just to let you know I have relaunched the Roman Sock Shop and you can now find it at romansock.com.
I have been tagged by Tricia at http://darncatcrochet.blogspot.com/
So I'm it......
Brie
Blue: Blue is my favorite color, specifically Aegean blue. Even better when viewed from a Greek beach! I spent my high school years in Athens, Greece and I loved it there. It is a messy city, white against a back drop of brown and green and blue, full of the smells of meat cooking and strong coffee. It has a sense of relaxed pace, that people knew what they are doing and that is to have fun. I love the way the ancient mixes with the modern, and you walk on the same streets as they did a thousand years ago. My favorite haunt was the Cycladic Museum http://www.cycladic-m.gr/ one day I am going to crochet myself a whole set.
Reading and Rome: Reading has always been a big part of my life…actually Read is my second name. When I was little I loved the Arthur Ransom books particularly the Missy Lee book, pirates and China what could be better! Now I have become addicted to the Amelia Peabody book, and thanks to some very good suggestions I am trying the Falco books. In my more serious reading I am a big E.M Forster fan and love A Passage to India. I have always loved Rome and really recommend the book Rubicon! I am also learning ancient Latin and Greek, so I can actually read the sources first hand.
Indonesia: My Oma and my Mother grew up in Indonesia, and the stories they told me about their childhood have always stuck with me. My mother had a pet crocodile, amongst other exotic pets; all brought to them because they were orphans and had no hope in the wild. Eventually she had to release the crocodile back into the river and she always swore that it knew her, and would stick its head out of the water when she went over the bridge on her bike. My Oma was a Japanese prisoner of war during the Second World War and was in camp. She could never forgive what happened to her, and when she died I promised her I would remember but would also forgive.
Edinburgh: The place that I live. Old, beautiful, small, bemusing, exciting, constraining, secretive.

I try not to get too caught up in the hype behind books, but I just love the Phillip Pullman 'His Dark Material's series ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/His_Dark_Materials ) and it is coming out on film! The website they have set up for it is fantastic! http://www.goldencompassmovie.com/ and on it you can find out who your daemon (the other part of your soul) mine is Agapius and he is solitary, humble, assertive, modest and inquisitive just like me. I also think his name sounds suitably roman.
