I seem to have a thing for Owls! I love what they stand for - how many things are both cute and wise? Surely the most winsome combination, but these little guys have a bit more bite.
The mouse enjoyed his high perch on the branch surveying Loch Lomond and Balloch Castle.
When he heard a soft hoot from behind....
Before he knew it he felt the wind rushing down his back!
And little mouse was snatched.
The Owl made great haste back to his nest.
Where he kissed the mouse and let him go (This is exactly what happened! The mouse then went on to live on a cheese farm and was very very happy)
Balloch Castle isn't just home to one Owl, there are many of our wise and adorable friends. Including this little fellow who lives up in the tower.
He also likes to show off his impressive wing span - Owls can occasionally be a little boasty.
And sometimes in what is surely a unique Owl-heart trait they like to hang out sitting on top of each other. The smallest always goes on top!
In an awful twist of fate our rescue cat Betty (We have two rescue cats now - Betty and Boo - Betty is pure white and Boo is a little Tabby) has started to show her prowess as a mouser. We have had three mouse shaped presents so far. I am really not sure what to do - It's such a horrible thing to have to deal with, but I think to stop her going outside would deny her very catty nature and there is no denying she is at one with the world when hunting in her silly clumsy but ultimately efficient way.
Its a strange thing to have this great white, cat who is a force of nature, cuddle up to you for strokes while purring like a steam train - it makes you feel very special. Its not like owl wrangling though!
