Finally I have had a little time to crochet! At last!! Meet my new little sweetie.
crawling along
smiling
chowing down
and just being cute
I was very lucky to live in China during the early 80's when I was a little kid. China was heavily communist and there were very few westerners, we were often the first white people locals had ever seen. When we went to the market (After a couple of hours on a bus) hundreds of people would queue up to touch my brothers hair (which is bright red - especially lucky!).
I am reading the book Getting Rich First in a Changing China, it makes me sad to realise how many old treasures are lost. But innovation always shines through. I remember drinking a bottle of coke cola in little shack bar in the middle of communist China in early 80's, now that is ingenuity - the bar was made of found bits and pieces! How the coke got there I will never know.
The panda is AWESOME. Fantastic job!

I absolutely ADORE this little panda. It's got to be one of the cutest things I've ever seen (next to real baby pandas). i think you've captured so much of that amazing panda personality (especially that of panda cubs) in your latest creation!!! I can only hope you'll be releasing a pattern!!!! you are so talented.

Great story to go along with a cute Panda Bear. I'm glad you shared! :)
That seems to be an amazing opportunity, to have experienced a different country and culture at such a young age. Do you feel like that has shaped you in your growth?

This is way scary! I am making a panda bear too! I wanted to sell the pattern, if people like it, and have all the money go to the world wildlife foundation, but I'm not sure how. I just thought it was interesting.

Awww! He is beyond cute! Is he felted, or is it just a fuzzy yarn crocheted really tightly?

That is so darling... I too am hoping for a pattern eventually -- my daughter's nickname is Panda....

Just joining the crowd here to confirm that he's absolutely fantastic :) I've lived in China too but much more recently (2005). It must have changed immensely since you and your family were there, though in Jinan city the locals still thought foreigners were a pretty amazing sight.

This is such a cute panda! I love how creative you are with your patterns, and this one is special to me because I lived in china in the 90s.
I know what you mean about people lining up to see you; my baby brothers were identical twins!
