At Start Learning we believe that funding should be available for distance learning students too. It is really hard for adults to re-enter full time education because of their time commitments and the impact on their careers, but these adults should not be penalised for being active members of society!
It should be recognised that distance learning is one of the only ways that an adult can retrain or develop their skills without having a negative impact on their family or earnings. The good news is that we are seeing some real changes in this direction.
ILAs are learning grants of £200 available from the Scottish Government. You can use them on most nationally recognised qualificationsavailable from traditional learning providers or by distance learning. You need to be earning under £22k a year or on benefits to qualify.
We really hope that other schemes will follow suit and start giving distance learning the recognition it deserves.
